The Difference Between DVD Duplication & DVD Replication?
Some say duplication when they mean replication and visa versa so what do these terms really mean.
Replication:
This all take place in a factory often referred to as a replication plant. Quantities of over 500 or a 1,000 discs would be replicated. A masters disc is used to create a glass master which allows a set of stampers to be manufactured. Small cubes of plastic are then heated and remoulded in the shape of the disc, using a process call injection moulding.
The next step in the process is for a reflective coat of aluminium to be added and sealed with protective coat of lacquer which is in turn is hardened by an ultraviolet light.
The process of manufacturing the disc is now complete and the discs are loaded onto a printing machine. Depending on the client’s requirements this can be Digital, Off-Set, Litho or Screen printed.
There you have it a complete disc that looks like a music album or DVD movie purchased in a shop.
Duplication:
Just like the replication process you start with a master disc, either a CD-R or DVD-R depending on the format you wish to duplicate. Discs are then loaded onto an automatic duplicator. The machine would then duplicate the information/data from the master disc onto the CD-R’s or DVD-R’s.
The under side of the disc would be Light Green for CD-R and Purple for DVD-R. Once the discs have be duplicated they would be printed, as with replicated discs this can be Digital, Off-Set, Litho or Screen printed.
DVD Duplication is good for small runs which require a quick turnaround time. | |
